Well believe it or not it will soon be summer. That means school will be out and once again Outreach will be looking for Reading Buddies. Reading Buddies is a program that we do each summer to help students that are struggling with reading. The students are referred to us by the teachers and we find volunteers to meet with them at Outreach once or twice a week for 6 weeks to help them with reading skills.
If you enjoy having someone read to you why not volunteer to be a Reading Buddy? As I stated you would meet with a student once (for 1 hour) or twice (30 min) a week. We leave the length of time up to the parent and Reading Buddie as to what works best for the individual student. Some do better with hour long sessions and others need to have shorter sessions. The students are supplied with materials from the school for their particular level of reading and the volunteer may also go to the library and get books for the students to read. If this is something you think you might be interested in or you want more information give Sharon a call at 309-928-9400. The sessions usually start the 2nd week of June and runs through mid July. If you are interested just call and let me know and I will get back to you with the dates. We also have an informational meeting with all the volunteers before we start to go over the materials and partner students with volunteers.
