As Director of Outreach working for and with seniors of the community I was asked to be a part of the DeWitt County Triad (S.A.L.T.) Committee by Sherriff Shofner.  Triad is a Partnership of Law Enforcement, Seniors and Community Organizations and S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together).

The DeWitt County Triad is initiating a Telephone Reassurance Program entitled “Are You OK?” This program is already successfully being used around the country to save lives.

Taking the fear out of being alone by contacting an elderly person, homebound individual or latch – key child on a daily basis helps to reassure their well-being and give them a feeling of security.  The Are You OK? telephone reassurance system eases the concern of friends and family who find it difficult to maintain consistent, reliable contact. The Are You OK? system can truly bring a sense of comfort into every subscriber’s home FREE OF CHARGE.

Participants in the FREE program receive a daily phone call generated by a computer. If the call is not answered after a set number of attempts and emergency contacts are notified, the county 911 center will send help.

The program is primarily used by seniors, but is available for any at-risk resident of the county without charge. For more information or to sign up please contact Sharon at 309-928-9400.
