On April 28 and 29 Outreach will host the AARP Driving Course that allows seniors to receive a discount on their auto insurance. Upon completion of the 8 hour course participants are given a certificate to take to their insurance company and receive a discount for 3 years on their insurance. This course is offered each year and held in many communities around the state. The course is sponsored by AARP. You do not have to be an AARP member to take this course and receive a discount on your insurance. This certificate is good for all insurance companies. Some things participants learn are defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road; how to deal with aggressive drivers; techniques to handle driving situations such as left turns, right of way and blind spots; how to safely use anti-lock brakes, air bags and safety belts. It is stressed that cars have changed over the years and so have traffic rules, and driving conditions we drive on every day.
All in all it is just a good way to review and become aware of some things we may not realize we are doing wrong until we actually hear someone else point it out.
There is a charge for the materials that you use in class. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The dates again are April 28 & 29, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. You must pre-register, so if you think you might be interested or for more information give Sharon a call at 309-928-9400. The deadline for registering is April 17.
